Description

One unit is 1 teaspoon.

At a Glance:

What it does:
Brings finished dandelion BD 506 into the biodynamic compost set. Biodynamic growers associate this preparation with silica and potassium processes; a 2026 laboratory test of Italian BD 506 measured antioxidant activity and growth of selected compost-associated bacteria.

How to use:
Use the finished preparation as part of a complete BD 502–507 set. Make six holes evenly across the compost pile and place this unit into one of the first five holes, about halfway down the pile. Close the hole with old compost or good soil so no air pocket remains. One complete set treats up to 15 tons of compost; use the full set on smaller piles also.

Ingredients:
Dandelion blossoms (Taraxacum officinale)

Product Details:

Part of the Biodynamic Compost Set.

BD 506 is JPI's finished dandelion-blossom (Taraxacum officinale) compost preparation. Traditional biodynamic teaching relates it to silica and potassium processes. Add it to compost with the other BD 502–507 preparations according to JPI's current directions.

Measured findings: In a 2026 laboratory comparison, an individually tested Italian BD 506 preparation ranked second among the preparations compared for antioxidant activity in the ABTS assay and stimulated selected compost-associated bacterial cultures, including Ureibacillus terrenus, Geobacillus thermodenitrificans, Aeribacillus pallidus, and Frigoribacterium faeni. A separate 27-year field comparison measured distinct soil-microbial functional profiles after applying compost made with the complete BD 502–507 set. The laboratory assay measured BD 506 individually; the field comparison measured the complete set.
