Description

One unit is 1 heaping teaspoon.

At a Glance:

What it does:
Brings prepared white-oak bark into the BD 502–507 compost set. Biodynamic growers associate BD 505 with calcium processes, compost organization, and plant resilience.

How to use:
Use the finished preparation as part of a complete BD 502–507 set. Make six holes evenly across the compost pile and place this unit into one of the first five holes, about halfway down the pile. Close the hole with old compost or good soil so no air pocket remains. One complete set treats up to 15 tons of compost; use the full set on smaller piles also.

Ingredients:
Oak bark (Quercus alba).

Product Details:

Measured preparation activity: In a 2026 laboratory study of Italian oak-bark BD 505 made from Quercus robur, it had the highest antioxidant activity among the biodynamic preparations compared in an ABTS assay and stimulated Aeribacillus pallidus culture to about 107 colony-forming units per milliliter. JPI's product uses North American white oak (Quercus alba); follow the current JPI directions to apply the finished preparation with the complete BD 502–507 set.
