Description

One unit is 1 teaspoon.

At a Glance:

What it does:
Brings prepared yarrow into the BD 502–507 compost set. Biodynamic growers traditionally associate it with trace-element and nitrogen processes; a long-term field trial measured a distinct soil-microbial response from compost treated with yarrow alone.

How to use:
Use the finished preparation as part of a complete BD 502–507 set. Make six holes evenly across the compost pile and place this unit into one of the first five holes, about halfway down the pile. Close the hole with old compost or good soil so no air pocket remains. One complete set treats up to 15 tons of compost; use the full set on smaller piles also.

Ingredients:
Yarrow blossoms (Achillea millefolium), water.

Product Details

Part of the Biodynamic Compost Set.

In a 27-year replicated field trial, researchers compared manure compost alone, manure compost prepared with yarrow (BD 502) alone, and manure compost prepared with the complete BD 502–507 set. The yarrow-only treatment produced a distinct soil-microbial substrate-use profile and higher catabolic use of several nitrogen-containing substrates, which the authors interpreted as improved nitrogen status of the microbial community. JPI supplies the finished BD 502 for use with the complete compost set; follow the current instructions linked below.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Biodynamic Yarrow Preparation used for?

JPI uses finished BD 502 yarrow with the complete BD 502–507 compost set. In a 27-year replicated field trial, a separate yarrow-treated compost arm produced a distinct soil-microbial substrate-use profile and higher catabolic use of several nitrogen-containing substrates; the researchers interpreted this as improved nitrogen status of the soil microbial community. Biodynamic growers also traditionally associate yarrow with trace-element processes.

How do I use Biodynamic Yarrow in composting?

Use the finished preparation as part of a complete BD 502–507 set. Make six holes evenly across the compost pile and place this unit into one of the first five holes, about halfway down the pile. Close the hole with old compost or good soil so no air pocket remains. One complete set treats up to 15 tons of compost; use the full set on smaller piles also.

What are the ingredients in BD 502?

BD 502 contains Yarrow blossoms (Achillea millefolium) and water.

Can I purchase Biodynamic Yarrow Preparation in bulk?
